Fruits of My Labor

I go into all of it of knowing full well that I will never make a million dollars a year, I will have to work long days in all kinds of weather nearly every day of the year and I will never be an astronaut. And I’m okay with that. I’m more then okay with that. I’ve served McDonalds fries, I’ve made rubber stamps, I’ve groomed dogs, I’ve laid pipeline, I’ve been a medic for a logging camp, I’ve served five star dining in the heart of Calgary, I’ve made coffee at Starbucks, I’ve done landscaping, I’ve imported wine , I’ve been unemployed and I’ve sold vacations. I’ve been like Edison and I’ve found a thousand things that didn’t work for me, and I’ve found elements of things that did. I know that I’m skilled in sales, management and customer service and I know that I very much dislike doing all of those. But I do know that I love teaching, and being one on one with anyone, I want to be outside, I like animals – a lot. I want the freedom of running my own business. I want to see the fruits of my labor. I think about a lot of different things, but what I think about the most is that I just wanting to do something that makes me happy.
Well, here’s how it is; I applied to Guelph University for their equine science certificate. It’s all online so I don’t have to move to Ontario and I can still work.
And I got in.
Guelph is partnered with a local College, and that’s where the hands on program that I want to get into is, and some of the courses from Guelph not only transfer over to the other program but are require to have been done to get their degree. So while I missed the deadline to apply and attend locally this September, I will be a head of the game and ready when they begin taking applications again in October. Not to mention, there are a ton of options as to what I can do from here with Guelph alone. The certificate can be made into a diploma with an additional year of courses; there is also an animal welfare and a business management side to it as well if that’s what I become interested in. And all of it is online so I can keep ranching at home.
So here’s to sowing the seeds that will grow me the fruits of my labor
